Today, most of my business activity involves the Internet so I thought I’d create this simple site to see how it gets ranked using a personal name George Noble May and George May ( Gone to #1 on Google Australia)

I'm treating this site as a newsletter.

The following  are my observations on what is happening to almost all Australian businesses in 2010

If ever there were a truth for business people to accept today it is  what the INTERNET is slowly doing to their business.

The internet is the worst and best thing we have ever experienced
Have you ever wondered where all the internet business goes that is  generated for your products and services?

Its captured by the few who actually know how the internet works!

If you own a business or manage people this quote should be on your fridge:

“ In times of change the learners shall inherit the earth while the learned find  themselves wonderfully equipped to compete in a world that no longer exists”

 

Never in our corporate history has there been so much change so quickly, we see industries that have been around for decades being eroded daily.
The Rivers of Gold – Classified ad's which built empires are no longer so golden.
For the past 5 years I have  focused on the use of the internet as a lead generation tool.
We now own many thousands of business domain names and websites that we use to capture searches on the net for the products and services we market.

This needs thinking about:

  1. The internet is causing the demise of the lead generation methods we used successfully for decades such as the Yellow Pages, newspaper Ad's, print media etc All produce fewer and fewer results... last month a colleague (not a client) paid $15,000 for a colour full page ad' in a trade magazine that has served him well for years and he tells me he didn't get a single lead!

  2. The internet  is now the major source of all new clients in every industry.

  3. In its present form it hasn't provided an alternative that works. Only a few years ago when you wanted a Dentist in Epping  you looked up Dentists in the Yellow Pages, it took seconds to find what you wanted – now you type dentist epping  into Google and there are 78,000 results with little chance of you being found.

  4. Having a website on page 1 Google for the website name is worthless.  One of the great con's of web site designers- The only people who find you are those who know you !

  5. Salespeople today are not equipped to deal with todays highly aware clients , clients who are able to find alternative products and services at their fingertips, and who, in many cases are well versed in the outdated sales techniques used my almost ALL salespeople such as 'closing the sale', 'answering objections' and such – they often know what the salesperson is going to say before they open their mouth !

In a nutshell:

  1. If your website isn't  positioned to be on page 1 Google for ALL of the instinctive search terms that a new client would type when looking for your products or services then your business is in trouble.

  2. If you are teaching your salespeople ineffective sales skills to deal with todays clients you may as well close the doors as you will be left behind while overseas or local competition  take your clients

What to do about it?

We have  thrown the tall poppy syndrome out the window years ago, especially since training over 200,000 salespeople in the USA and consulting to many of the Worlds larges companies here, in the USA, Asia and Europe with Australian created skills and programs

I’m spending a lot of time when in a creative mode at my  house / office at the mouth of the Hawkesbury -  wonderful for thought processes and focus. This is the view from my deck where we do our best work... I wrote the Language of Selling here over a 18 month period... since then its been adopted by EVERY company worldwide where it has been presented. Over 600 in Australia, the USA, Canada, Asia,New Zealand and Europe

My business history is as follows:

I came to Australia age 15 from the North West Highlands of Scotland.

Spent 2 years driving and working at all sorts of jobs from Perth to Sydney, Cairns, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Tasmania

Ended up in Wangaratta driving bulldozers and playing in a rock and roll band.

Moving to Melbourne at age 19 - I joined Xerox as a trainee, best thing possible as it was the golden age for Xerox  who were recognised as world leaders in sales and marketing training ... I was like a sponge and discovered I loved selling.

Over the next 8 years I had many management positions with Xerox and Nashua, leaving the industry as a national sales manager age 28.

I formed 2 companies: A building / manufacturing business and a training organisation.

Over the next 20 years I built the building company into a National organisation with hundreds of employees in offices from Townsville to Melbourne to Dubbo

In this period I invented the zippykerb continuous concrete edging machine www.zippykerb.com  - taking it to the USA and selling many hundreds there.

My training company was my passion and I kept it running with a few clients each year, when I sold my building interests I focused fully on www.noblemay.com.au and turned it into one of the World’s most successful training companies. 

Going to the USA for 4 days I ended up in partnership with the entrepreneur of the year and stayed over 4 years training The Language of Selling in over 50 US and Canadian cities

We had clients such as Virgin Blue and Word Perfect  state that I was the only outside consultant they had ever hired, We  trained over 600  major clients worldwide.

Here in Australia we had hundreds of companies utilise the language of Selling, the Art of War, Influencing with Integrity and our other programs.

5 years ago I became aware of the power of internet domain names and embarked on a program of becoming a specialist in this field.

Together with sales training which is my core passion we now also build large interactive web matrix's for clients.

We  also  generate  cash flow from the leasing of domain names or from directing leads from searches to my client’s web sites.

I also specialise on getting web sites ranked on the front page of Google and other search engines... so far we have a 100% record of being able to do so for any site we work with without paying for adwords.
